The cover screen. Our Z Flip8 protectors are marked (Outside) because they fit the 4.1-inch external display. The 6.9-inch inner screen folds and has a soft, flexible surface, so tempered glass cannot be applied to it — Samsung fits its own factory film to that panel, and you should not peel it off.
Glass Elite ($39.95) is the everyday choice for scratch and impact protection on the cover display. Glass XTR5 ($59.95) is graphene-fortified and tested 11 times stronger than basic glass, and adds Eyesafe CPF60 blue light filtering plus an anti-reflective coating — worth it if you use the cover screen constantly outdoors.
The Z Flip8 is rated IP48: it handles immersion in fresh water to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes, but the dust rating only blocks particles larger than 1 mm. Fine sand and grit can still reach the hinge, which is why a case and keeping the phone closed in pockets and beach bags genuinely matters.
Not a case built for it. Crystal Palace Snap is a two-piece design that sits either side of the hinge so the halves still meet flat, and it is cut for the cover display, cameras and ports. Avoid adapted or universal cases on a folding phone — over time they put load through the hinge.
